A total of 10 babies in Kediri regency, East Java, died of malnutrition experienced during 2008.
"They have an average of congenital disease causing poor nutrition," said Acting Chief Medical Officer, Kediri District, dr. Adi Laksono, in Kediri, on Thursday.
He said that some congenital diseases are among the lungs, heart, failure of organ function, and mental disorders.
According to Adi, in 2007, a total of 175 infants in Kediri, was detected under the 'red line'. In addition, 26 other infants suffered from lack of energy detectable protein (KEP). Meanwhile in 2008, 158 babies were detected under the 'red line' and 22 infants PEM.
"Infants whose weight is below the 'red line' should always be monitored, because if left unchecked could lead to PEM conditions, acute malnutrition even as marasmus and kwashiorkor," he explains.
Efforts to improve nutrition, especially for those who are under the 'red line', can be done by eating foods that contain four of five perfectly healthy.
"We've held events with the addition of nutritional supplementary food program (PMT) such as porridge and other healthy foods," he said.
Meanwhile, the offensive Semi Ramadhani, patients with PEM, Adi hope, take care of immediate family members.
"Should both parents come to the village to request a certificate of inadequacy, a new future to the Public Health Service," said Adi.
Assembly Members Kediri, Lutfi Mahmudiono, deplored the poor who still have not received the card the poor.
He said, in budget year 2009, allocations for health, especially for poor families is quite large, up to Rp 5 billion. The funds are in addition to the budget from the central government.
